IHG Appoints Georgia Tourism Official as InterContinental Brand VP in Americas

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has named Janis Cannon vice president, Brand Management, for InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, the Americas.

In her new role, Cannon is responsible for overseeing and driving marketing strategies and tactical marketing programs for InterContinental Hotels & Resorts in the Americas. She will develop overall profit growth strategies, including distribution methods and brand standards, as well as overseeing field marketing operations in local, regional and national markets.

Cannon was most recently deputy commissioner of tourism for the Georgia Department of Economic Development where she was responsible for managing domestic and international marketing and promotional plans for Georgia’s second largest industry.

Tourism Spending Increases

Tourism expenditures in White County has increased slightly according to information just released by the State of Georgia. White County Chamber of Commerce president Judy Walker says the spending increased from $41.3 –million in 2003 to $42.4- million in 2004. Walker said according to figures released by the Travel Industry of America for the State of Georgia, White County placed second in tourism expenditures in Northeast Georgia, just behind Hall County. Tourism director to join Northwest Pennsylvania Great Outdoor Visitors Bureau

The tourism development director at the Pennsylvania Tourism Office in Harrisburg will join the Northwest Pennsylvania Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau. Rick Dunlap will assume the role of tourism development director for the six-county tourism marketing organization, effective July 1. Dunlap will lead new initiatives for the bureau, including brand development, corporate relations and strategic planning. He also will serve as brand manager for the bureau's newly-launched Pennsylvania Wilds Initiative, Dave Morris, executive director of the DuBois-based bureau, announced the appointment.
