Asia Telecoms awarded MVNO status

ASIA Telecommunications Sdn Bhd has been awarded a the first Network Service Provider (1) licence in Malaysia to operate as a mobile virtual network provider (MVNO).

The license – issued by the by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission – enables it to lease mobile services and ”airtime” from established cellular carriers that ran their own networks without the need of owning a spectrum license or maitaning infrastructure, the company said in a press statement.

“The concept of an MVNO will alter cellular product offerings for Malaysian cellphone users,” said P. Danesh, Asia Telecom’s chief operating officer.

South Africa's second national fixed-line phone operator will get its licence by the end of November, ending state-controlled Telkom's monopoly, the head of telecoms at the country's regulator said on Tuesday. Stolt Offshore S.A. Asia Middle East Region awarded project

Stolt Offshore S.A. has been awarded a contract valued at $36 million by Vietnamese state oil company Petro Vietnam Exploration and Production for the Dai Hung Field Extension, offshore Vietnam. The contract is for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation work associated with block 05-1a offshore Vietnam. The field extension, in water depths of 120 m, comprises 18 km of NKT flexible flowlines and risers, 9 km of combined service umbilicals and two mid-depth buoys and ties back five new wells to the existing Dai Hung floating production unit.
