China UnionPay, the national bank-card association and payment network, is planning to launch prepaid travel cards for foreigners by the end of this year, the China Daily reported.
The newspaper, citing Zhang Yashuang, a company official, said UnionPay is in talks with international partners about marketing the new product and boosting the company’s image around the world.
UnionPay travel card holders will be able to pay for their shopping, dining and travel expenses in yuan.
The paper said foreigners will be able to purchase the travel cards from UnionPay’s overseas partners or at domestic airports, railway stations, tourist sites and shops.
