Gretzky tries to lift Canada

Gretzky tries to lift Canada Wayne Gretzky called on the younger players on the Canadian men's hockey team Monday to play better if Canada has any hope of defending its Olympic goal medal. Unlike four years ago when he lashed out at other countries and media members for openly rooting against Canada, this time Gretzky used a different approach to motivate the team. "Joe [Sakic] is a very good leader but we need other guys to help Joe but not just in the locker-room and in the [athletes'] village," Gretzky, Hockey Canada's executive director, told CBC Sports. Korea beats Canada

Korea beats Canada A lack of offence was a concern throughout the 22nd World Junior championships. And it was a major difficulty in the semi-final as Korea held Canada to four hits in the semi-final, a 6-1 Korea win. Rather than playing Team USA for gold, Canada will now play Mexico for bronze. A win would have given Canada a chance for only its second gold-medal and first since 1991 at Kindersley, Sask. Canada has won the bronze medal four times before: in 2002, 1997, 1987 and 1983. Canada bounced from U-20 soccer tourney

Canada bounced from U-20 soccer tourney Canada is leaving the world womens under-20 soccer championship earlier than ever before. And the fact that the Canadian women put on their best showing of the tournament in a 1-0 loss to favoured China on Wednesday will do little to ease the long flight home. Canada (1-2-0) finished third in Group B behind China (3-0-0) and Nigeria (2-1-0). Only the top two in the group advance to the quarter-finals. Nigeria cruised by Canada into second spot by thumping winless Finland 8-0. More : tsn.ca

Whitehorse raring to go as 2007 Canada Winter Games approach The 2007 Canada Winter Games are less than five months away and the mayor of Whitehorse is looking forward to the exposure they will bring to the countrys north. We see it as a bit of a coming out party, Ernie Bourassa said Tuesday during a promotional rally for the event at Torontos downtown Dundas Square. The north is not a homogenous unit - Nunavut has a different geography and people than the Northwest Territories and both are different from the Yukon. Thats why were hosting the Games as a pan-northern
