In the past fifteen years, China’s tourism industry has grown rapidly. To further boost developent of the secotor, the National Tourism Administration says it encourages more social investment in the tourism industry.

At a national tourism investment and trade fair, Gu Chaoxi, vice director of the China National Tourism Administration, says more investments are needed to invigorate the market.
“With the development of the tourism industry and market system, we need more capital with diversified means of investment. We have conducted a project with the National Development and Reform Commission to encourage more social investment in the industry.”
Up till now, China’s tourism sector has attracted about 105 billion US dollars of investment, with half being overseas investment.
According to the statistics, in the following five years, this sector needs over 12 billion US dollars of investment each year. However, the government funds less than one percent of what is needed.
In addition to the official tourism project, tourism trade and investment fair, travel agencies are also racking their brains to attract money.
Out of all the tourist projects by travel agencies, companies also provide free touris as incentives to award their hard-working employees.

Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Somkid Jatusripitak said here Thursday that Thailand and China have broad prospects for tourism cooperation.
"Thailand and China have great potential in cooperation in tourism and trade and economic exchange with the establishment of China-ASEAN free trade area," said Somkid, arrived at southern scenic city of Guilin early Thursday after attending the second China-ASEAN Expo.
