International Travel and Tourism Fair Opens in Moscow

The 12th Moscow International Travel and Tourism Fair MITT-2005 opened Wednesday with the participation of travel agents from 110 countries and some 2,500 firms.

According to organizers, the meeting of tourism and travel experts will last up to Saturday and is characterized by a larger presence of foreign companies, mainly from Italy.

The fair proposals include the participation of Cuba, above all the Sol Melia hotel chain and Sol y Son Los Viajes tour operator; the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Argentina and Peru, among others.

The Fair Grounds in Moscow comprise 36,000 square meters in which Russia will occupy almost 40 percent of the exhibit, offering special packages including tours for the southern region of the Federation and the territories of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Europe will use three halls of the fair complex with outstanding participation of Italy and Spain.

MITT-2005 Director Irina Kochetkova highlighted the attractive presence of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, territories where Russian tourist feel pleasure but did not have much information about new attractions.

The expert highlighted the presence of nations such as Iran, Bulgaria and Tanzania.

The Moscow International Travel and Tourism Fair is considered the most important of Eastern Europe.

Economic activity in travel and tourism in Kenya

In the first six months of 2005, Moscow was visited by 1.33 million foreign tourists, up 7% from last year, the Moscow Tourism Committee said.
