Movie tourism is a growing global phenomenon that has done wonders for New Zealand and other parts of the world.
While New Zealand continues to benefit from exposure it received from The Lord Of The Rings (LOTR) trilogy, Queensland is still benefiting from Crocodile Dundee which was credited with doubling visitor numbers to the state in the three years after it was released.
Film Auckland executive manager Natasha Christie said there had been a marked increase in the interest levels of Hollywood production companies seeking filming locations.
However, New Zealand faced stiff competition - particularly from Canada, South Africa and Australia - and it could take years to secure a picture, she said.
“It’s really always got to be a combination of beautiful locations and an experienced, talented industry as well as infrastructure,” she said.
“It often comes down to the nuts and bolts of it and Government incentives are essential.”
