Tourism gets leg up in City Beautiful

The number of national and international tourists visiting the city have increased compared to last year. As per the figures provided by the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation Limited (CITCO), the city has recorded an increase in the number of tourists coming here.

CITCO officials told Newsline that this year, up to April, over 5,000 international tourists have visited the city, compared to about 3,000 last year, up to the same month. Officials said number of domestic tourists coming to the city has also increased this year and up to April about 1.10 lakh have already visited, which is higher than the last year’s figures of 90,000.

CITCO MD J S Bir said there is a boom in the tourism sector and Chandigarh has benefitted from it.

He said the city is being promoted as an architectural wonder, a move he said, which is paying off. It may be mentioned that UT Administrator Gen S.F. Rodrigues has asked the Administration to take a number of steps for the promotion of tourism in city.
