Mugabe Off to Rome Unannounced, Against Travel Ban
President Robert Mugabe has traveled to Rome for the funeral of the late Pope John Paul II, unannounced and against a travel ban imposed on him by the European Union.
A report by the UK Christian think-tank Ekklesia said this act saw him branded ’shameless’ back home.
The trip defied a European Union travel sanctions imposed on him in 2002 after its observers were barred from disputed presidential elections, at which Mugabe claimed a further six-year term.
